2003 BLIZZARD!

With over 42" of snow in the city, (much more here in the rural areas) this storm ranked as the second largest snow storm in Colorado history, the worst in 90 years~

Monday evening,  March 17 brought in snow, and more snow, and more snow.  By Wednesday morning, March 19, you could barely see our car, and the 4 wheel drive was not going anywhere.   By Thursday morning, no car was in evidence!

The Get Away had drifts up the back as high as the fence  and we had to crawl on hands and knees from the house to the Get Away (about 1500 feet) as it was too deep to walk from one place to the other.  Look close, our Toyota truck is buried behind the back fence.

We had to shovel a pathway from the back door of both the house and the Get-Away for the dogs to go out to go potty.  Fortunately, the front door opens in, or we would not have been able to exit the house at all.

The snow didn't discourage the dogs:

Belle making snow angels.  See the 6 foot wall of snow behind her?

As this was "spring break", we had a full house.  Fortunately, most boarders arrived before the real snow-in happened.  Unfortunately, they were not able to go home when expected, and the following weeks boarders had to find accommodations elsewhere.

This is the Get Away back play-yard.  As you can see, all the play houses are covered in snow.

And the fencing behind the "suites" was totally snowed in with 10 foot drifts from the back fence line up to the building.  When we opened the door, it was a solid block of snow from bottom to top.

With snow as tall as the doorway out both exits, we had to dig a pathway for the dogs to come out and go potty.

Tigger, the Corgie, loves the snow, he is making snow-angels too

But then, it doesn't stick to his coat like it does some.

I'm not really sure they grasp the magnitude of the situation here...

as they romp and play like any normal day Ozzie and Figaro are playing "tag". Tigger says its time to call it a day

Kenny and Leah are exhausted after a hard day of shoveling.

Friday late morning we were surprised by the new  neighbor Paul, when he pulled up the street and in to our driveway with a huge front-end loader and dug us out all the way from the road to the kennel!  From then on, Kenny shuttled dogs from Parker's old K-Mart, to avoid any "guests" from getting stuck on the way in or out.   The melting snow turning to mud is much more a danger than any snow.  Word has it, another big storm is on the way next week...we hope the whether man is wrong, but have called Jesse of Rodriquez Trucking to put him on the alert to come dig us out just in case.
