ARE YOU READY FOR THE COLD WEATHER?

When you walk out the door for work, school or errands, are you grabbing a coat, boots and mittens?   If so, when you put your pet out to do his "duty" do you do the same?   If you have children, I am sure you worry if they will catch cold.  Make sure you give the same consideration to your 4-legged child, he is just as much at risk as the 2-legged ones. Most of your pet supply stores carry all sorts of sweaters, as well as booties you can dress your pet up in - remember, it's not just for a cute look, it's for their health!

VETERINARIAN IDENTIFICATION

A client brought a litter of  puppies to my veterinary clinic for inoculations and worming. As the look-alike pups squirmed over and under one another in their box, I realized it would be difficult to tell the treated ones from the rest. I turned on the water faucet, wet my fingers, and moistened each dog's head when I had finished.

After the fourth puppy, I noticed my hitherto talkative client had grown silent. As I sprinkled the last pup's head, the woman leaned forward and whispered, "I didn't know they had to be baptized."

SHE'S BACK!

casey is back working for us and back naming all the puppies! so if you want idea's for puppy names, or need to know if your puppy has/had a name, she's the one to talk to.    Welcome home Casey - we missed you.

I REALLY HATE BEING MISUNDERSTOOD

"I pulled into a crowded parking lot and rolled down the car windows to make sure my dog had fresh air. She was stretched out on the back seat, and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there. I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically, Now you stay. Do you hear me? Stay! Stay!"

The driver of a nearby car, perhaps noting that I am a blonde, gave me a strange look and said, "Why don't you just put it in park?"

Health Warning...

According to recent news articles, there is a confirmed outbreak of Kennel Cough in Colorado.  Please make sure you pet is current on his Bordetella vaccines for both your grooming and boarding needs.   Additionally, according to various sources, there is a "Doggie Influenza" or "Doggie Flu" going around that can be potentially harmful to pets, especially older kids.  Sources differ on what States have gotten the flu, so check with your local vet to see if your dog is at risk.

Zanies Reindeer Antlers IS YOUR PET SAFE FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Christmas with all it's glitter and glitz is as exciting to a pet as it is to children.  Tinsel is deadly as can be that hidden box of candy under wrap.  And a very excited dog may even crash a tree and hurt himself.   So, please use baby gates to block off your pet from the Christmas tree and presents...~~Photo courtesy of PetEdge

A DOG NAMED LUCKY

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog, Lucky. Lucky was a real character.
Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit, they would
warn their friends not to leave their luggage open because Lucky would
help himself to whatever struck his fancy.

Inevitably someone would forget and something would come up missing. Mary
or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure
would be, amid all of Lucky's favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his
finds in his toy box, and he was very particular that his toys stay in the
box.

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her
she was going to die of this disease...she was just sure it was fatal. She
scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders.

The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A
thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the
three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I
die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I
didn't want to leave him.

The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death. The double
mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated, and Mary
was hospitalized for over two weeks.

Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully but the dog just drooped,
whining and miserable.

Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived
home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her
bedroom.

Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap.

Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It
made Mary sad, but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed. When Mary woke,
for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her
head, and her body felt heavy and hot. Panic soon gave way to laughter
though when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally
blanketed, in every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the
sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement and back bringing
his beloved mistress his favorite things in life. He had covered her with
his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again,
walking further and further together every night.

It's been 12 years now, and Mary is still cancer-free.

Lucky? He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box, but Mary
remains his greatest treasure.

Live everyday to the fullest...because every day is a blessing from God!
