Bichons & Friends! is the creation
of a business from the love of the Bichon Frise, a fluffy white dog who's
clown-like personality begs you to love him.
In 1991 we adopted a Bichon Frise from a friend who insisted that
this was the perfect dog for us. Boy was she right! Belle has become the
love of our lives. And small dogs, primarily Bichons, a major focus for us.
With the placement of our first liter of puppies, we became
grandparents and to keep track of our "babies" we took up dog-sitting, which ultimately led us
to the, "The Bichon Frise Get Away, a resort for small dogs".
It was not a simple task to open the
"Get-Away". We spent 1 year researching the
proper requirements for a legally zoned dog resort
(kennel). We then spent over 2 years
looking for a location that met those requirement. In 1999 we found
our present 35 acre "ranch" which had a barn with an upstairs
apartment, and 2 out buildings. The barn has now been
converted to a home for ourselves, and the detached garage, with its
new addition, became the dog's "Get Away".
The purpose of our "Get Away" is to provide a non-kennel environment for small dogs when their hu-families have to travel. This environment also provides a wonderful social outlet for our playful little Bichons, Shih-Tzu and Shih Chon puppies! We have a indoor play area and an outdoor play areas. And individual theme suites for our overnight guests. Each guest has his/her own bedroom with custom built beds to rest up in after a day of play.
The Bichon Frise Rescue Ranch, Inc. allows space and time to help those that need special attention before going to new forever homes with caring families. The Rescue Ranch has found new homes for 100's of small dogs. A great feat for a family-run "shelter". We have been received local and national news coverage for this work. You can catch us almost monthly on Animal Planet's Breed All About It program.
