*******************************************************************************************************************************************

What a busy summer this was.

We are  proud to announce that we have been full all summer long, and have added two employees to our ranks.   Nikki Myers and her daughter, Cheyenne, came to us early on as community service volunteers, and were so welcome we asked them to remain as salaried staff.  Nikki is busy with school and raising a daughter, so she primarily works the weekend shifts which gives me Sunday's off on a regular basis!  Thank You Nikki!

We also are thrilled to have Heather Burkhardt and her two Chihuahua "kids" Chiclet and Digger.   Heather moved here from Arizona, and had worked in a dog day-care facility.  She is just awesome with all the dog kids around here. Heather's favorite word, is "Groovy" which puts a smile on everyone's face.  Which, she says, is why she uses the word.   Heather is around most weekday mornings.

We are confident your pets are in good hands with either of these great gals, and hope you will get a chance to meet them soon.

One of our dogs is into modeling.  His neighbor is a photographer and uses Spike(Parkinson) aka Chip as a subject. He also has two shots in a book called  AmPhoto's Complete Book of Photography on how to photograph white pets.

The 2004 Picnic was held on June 19, 2004, and despite adverse weather conditions, we had a great turn-out.   We had spent a great deal of time ebay shopping in the dog-costume department and had over 24 awesome outfits for our dog-fashion show.  Everything from a bikini, to a wedding outfit.  And fortunately, there were several rain-gear outfits as well.     I think the dogs looked great, and know the owners had fun as well.   We will be making this part of our annual event, so consider letting your pet be a model next year.   The money raised goes to The Bichon Frise Rescue Ranch, inc. for use for the rescue work done on behalf of Bichons and Pomeranians.  The picnic, was co-sponsored by the Denver Metro Pom Club.    Thank you all who were in attendance!   http://www.bichonfriserescueranch.org/2004_pomachon.htm

 Thinking

It started out innocently enough.

I began to think at parties now and then to loosen up. Inevitably though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker. I began to think alone - "to relax," I told myself - but I knew it wasn't true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time.

I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don't mix, but I couldn't stop myself.

I began to avoid friends at lunchtime so I could read Thoreau and Kafka. I would return to the office dizzied and confused, asking, "What is it exactly we are doing here?"

Things weren't going so great at home either. One evening I had turned off the TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life. She spent that night at her mother's.

I soon had a reputation as a heavy thinker. One day the boss called me in. He said, "Skippy, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you don't stop thinking on the job, you'll have to find another job." This gave me a lot to think about.

I came home early after my conversation with the boss. "Honey," I confessed, "I've been thinking..." "I know you've been thinking," she said, "and I want a divorce!"
"But Honey, surely it's not that serious."

"It is serious," she said, lower lip a quiver. "You think as much as college professors, and college professors don't make any money, so if you keep on thinking we won't have any money!" "That's a faulty syllogism," I said impatiently, and she began to cry.

I'd had enough. "I'm going to the library," I snarled as I stomped out the door. I headed for the library, in the mood for some Nietzsche, with a PBS station on the radio. I roared into the parking lot and ran up to the big glass doors... they didn't open. The library was closed.

To this day, I believe that a Higher Power was looking out for me that night. As I sank to the ground clawing at the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Zarathustra, a poster caught my eye. "Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?" it asked.

You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinker's Anonymous poster.

Which is why I am what I am today: a recovering thinker. I never miss a TA meeting. At each meeting we watch a non-educational video; last week it was "Porky's." Then we share experiences about how we avoided thinking since the last meeting.

I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home. Life just seemed... easier, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking.

HOLIDAY WARNINGS!!!!

Casual Canine 2-Piece Pet Costume Little Devil Halloween is a time of year when there are prowlers on the look out for pets for sacrifice, and an evening when your door will be continually open.  Please keep you pet locked up safely in a bedroom, laundry or kennel. It is for his own protection!

Casual Canine Duck Costume Thanksgiving turkey can be a death trap for a pet.  Keep the carcass out of reach.  Our pets love to rummage in the trash, and Blanca has been so bold as to climb up on our kitchen counter when our back is turned,  so we take the turkey up to the trash lock-up immediately upon finishing dinner.

Zanies Reindeer Antlers Christmas with all it's glitter and glitz is as exciting to a puppy as it is to children.  Tinsel is deadly as can be that hidden box of candy under wrap.  And a very excited pup may even crash a tree and hurt himself.   So, please use baby gates to block off your pet from the Christmas tree and presents...

Dear Dog and Cat,

When I say move, it means to go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two of you in the way.

The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help, because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs and cats sleeping, they can actuallycurl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing but sarcasm.

My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, try to turn the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. When I exit this room, I will come out the same door I entered. In addition, I have been using bathrooms for years. Canine attendance has never been necessary.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog's butt. I cannot stress this enough. It would be such a simple change for you.

In return for your following these simple rules, I have posted the following message on our front door:

Rules for Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and Like to Complain About Our Pets:

1. They live here. You don't.

2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.

3. I like my pet a lot better than I like most people.

4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted

son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

5. Dogs and cats are better than kids. They eat less, don't ask for money all the time, are easier to train, usually come when called, never drive your car, don't hang out with drug-using friends, don't smoke or drink, don't worry about buying the latest fashions, don't wear your clothes, don't need a gazillion dollars for college, and if they get pregnant, you can sell the results.

Just a quick note and a few pictures to let you know how much fun we are having with Buddy and Tanner.  They are enjoying each others company, even when Buddy has to show Tanner that he is Dad by disciplining Tanner once and awhile.  Buddy's hair has grown back and he is so much happier these days he even looks as if he has a smile on his face all the time. His favorite spot is in mom's arms or following her around, he even howls when she leaves. They have given and recieved so much love since they have joined the Coleman family.  We are so happy we found fuzzy pups and now have two of the best poms ever.

Thanks again

Like the photos we take of your boarding pets?

   THIS WEEKS GUESTS

Ever consider having a professional photo of your pet?  We think everyone should have a professional photo at least once in a lifetime and have invited Patty's Pet Photography to do the honors.   Our first official photo shoot was October 15, and almost all dogs in attendance opted for the $15 sitting fee: which includes two: 4 x 5 prints.  These prints can in turn be turned into Holiday cards for $25/25 cards, or made into enlarged photos.  We are ordering a large 11 x 15 for the office, as the last photo we have of our gang is 5 years old, and now we have a new gang.   We are hopeful to make this an on-going event, so let us know if you would like your pets photo taken the next time you board.

I REALLY HATE BEING MISUNDERSTOOD

"I pulled into a crowded parking lot and rolled down the car windows to make sure my Bichon Frise had fresh air. She was stretched out on the back seat, and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there. I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically, Now you stay. Do you hear me? Stay! Stay!"

The driver of a nearby car, perhaps noting that I am a blonde, gave me a strange look and said, "Why don't you just put it in park?"

****WEATHER AND ROAD ALERT*****

Elbert County has not paved Meadow Station , nor Carlson Road and they can be downright treacherous in wet conditions.   Rain and snow will make our roads accessible by 4 wheel drive only.   To assist you, we have opted to do a free pick-up and delivery via Parker.   We will set up a meet at the Big Lots Parking lot, which is located at the South West corner of Main Street and Parker Road.   We can then transport you pet to the ranch safely in our own vehicle, and save you the trouble of a muddy vehicle.   PLEASE take advantage of this service, as we do not want any of our guests, human or canine, to be at risk on the road in to our facility.

When in doubt, call first.  We will always gladly alert you to the road conditions of the day.

Unfortunately, this was not an issue we contemplated when we moved to this location.  And we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Advice From a Dog

If a dog was the teacher you would learn stuff like:

When loved ones come home,

*Always run to greet them.

*Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

*Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

*When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.

*Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

*Take naps.

*Stretch before rising.

*Run, romp, and play daily.

*Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

*Avoid biting , when a simple growl will do.

*On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

*On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

*When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

*No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout, run right back
and make friends.

*Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

*Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. BUT, Stop when you have had enough.

*Be Loyal.

*Never pretend to be something you're not.

*If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. !!!

*When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle
them gently.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the owners of "Rosie"  who lost their senior dog to the Rainbow Bridge.  We hope their hearts will be healed with the knowledge that they gave her a wonderful  life while in their care.  For those who have not visited the site, visit the link for In Memory of CC to read the "Rainbow Bridge" prayer as well as other dedications to pets.

SPIT with her new mom:   The Bichon Frise Rescue Ranch, inc. placed half a dozen dogs over the PETsMART rescue weekend of April 30 - May 3.   We are very thankful for the support we receive from PETsMART throughout the year, and are in need of volunteers to help man a both on a regular basis at any of the PETsMART stores.   If you have free time on a Saturday or Sunday to just "hang out" with your pet and give out brochures and share information about the rescue efforts at the "Ranch", we could use the help..

DOG HAIR: POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS!!!

In a press release today, the National Institute of Health has announced the discovery of a potentially dangerous substance in the hair of dogs. This substance, called "amo-bacter canis" has been linked with the following symptoms in female humans:

Reluctance to cook

Reluctance to perform housework

Reluctance to wear anything but jeans or sweats

Reluctance to work except in support of a dog

Physical craving for contact with dogs (may be an addiction)

Beware: If you come in contact with a female human affected by this substance, be prepared to talk about dogs for hours on end.

A RESCUE STORY

Buzzy the Bichon

We know folks, who when they lose a beloved pet, wait for some time before they find another furry friend.  Well, that is them, this is us!
Two weeks after losing our wonderful therapy dog, Jed, we were haunting the Humane Society but without much luck. We just did not find a good match.
Then we called our favorites cousins,Delores and Bob Jezek for advice. They  had bichons and we knew that they fostered some for the Rescue Ranch. We wondered if a Bichon would be right for us. Yes, they said without hesitation. They called Pam Knight for us and put in our order.
Less than two weeks later,Pam called with a potential pup for us. Directions were given to the Ranch and a time to meet the next Saturday was planned.  Pam sent us a photo of Buster,He sure was a cute dog, but he did not look like a Buster. We started calling him Buzzy.

The day before the meeting, it snowed... Lots! Pam called to say that we needed a four-wheel drive vehicle to get to the ranch.  We do not have one, so what to do?  We invited ourselves and Pam and Buzzy to Delores and Bob's in Littleton.  And they did not know it!  Lucky for us , it was OK with them when we asked!

We arrived in Littleton with excitement at a high level. We could not wait for Buzzy to arrive. And after he did arrive it took us about 5 minutes, to decide he was the one for us.

Buzzy is quite a cuddler, which we love and encourage. Yes he is allowed on the furniture! We have nicknamed him Velcro!  He sticks to you
His sister Ellie Mae loves him too! She missed Jed so very much. She had a canine companion again!

A  year after the adoption, Buzzy has passed his pet therapy training. We were in despair the first night of training because Buzzy was not paying attention. However once he introduced himself to each participant, both canine and human, he was fine and passed with high honors!

He is marvelous therapy pet. He visits Longmont United Hospital one afternoon a week.  And he does his job well. When allowed by the patient, he climbs right up on the bed and cuddles for a long as the patients wants, and sometimes that is a long time.
Buzzy is the best! Thanks, Pam.

Rescue update:  The Bichon Frise Rescue Ranch, inc. was  closed December and January, but has re-opened and has rescues available for Adoption!  We will be featured on PetLine 9, March 6, at approximately 8:15 a.m. and from there will head to the Parker PETsMART on Parker Rd. and Hilltop with available rescues.

Additionally, we are hoping to be at PETsMART the 1st Saturday of each month.  PETsMART is our largest financial supporter throughout the year.  We cannot risk loosing their support, and our attendance at their store is part of this partnership.  Help is needed in this area, so if you have free time on a Saturday morning to just "hang out" with your pet and give out brochures and share information about the rescue efforts at the "Ranch", we could use the help..

PETsMART.com

2003 numbers are in...we adopted 75 pets in to new homes, with the average stay of over 3 weeks before homes are found.   The Bichon Frise Get Away continues to carry the majority share of expenses for the rescue efforts, but we would like to see the Bichon Frise Rescue Ranch doing  more in cost share.  So...we need some fund-raising ideas.  The annual picnic and the PETsMART Santa events are our only fund-raising events, other than adoption fees, we have no incoming revenue.   Please remember, the Bichon Frise Rescue Ranch is a 501c3 non-profit organization and we can accept tax-deductible donations.    Unlike many rescue groups, we are primarily supported by the efforts of myself and my husband Kenny.  With operation of a full-time kennel, we have little time left over to be out there beating the bushes for funding.

Good news is...we are now a recognized business for local volunteers needing to do community service.  So, if you can come up with ideas, we may be able to come up with man-hours to help accomplish fund-raising fund-raising projects.   In the meantime, mark your callendar for this years picnic:  June 19, 2004, same time same place as last year.

A man follows a lady out of a movie theatre.  She has a dog on a leash.  He says, "I couldn't help but notice that your dog was really into the movie.  He cried at the sad parts and he laughed at the funn parts!  Did you find that unusual?

She replied, "Yes, I found it highly unusual!  He HATED the book!"

Abbie, a Westie, is our first "Day Care" guest.  She came to hang out with all the doggies for a day of fun and socialization.

2004 NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS

BY LAS AMIGAS & HOLLY

1)  I will not roll in the road, or on the cow pies after mom gives me a bath.

2)  I will not bark at night at sounds mom and dad cannot hear while they are sleeping.

3)  I will not wash my toys in the water dish and then push them in grandma's lap when she is visiting.

4)  I will not bite Greg's friends, no matter how scary they look.

5)  I will not eat strange things from the trash and then throw them up on mom and dads bed, especially right after they have changed the sheets.

6)  I will try and behave like a trained pet, even though we all know I have trained them, not visa-versa.

7)  I will try to remember how hard it is for mom and dad to get contractors out this far, and refrain from eating them.

8)  I will not pee on the bathroom carpet just before mom or dad come out of the shower.

9)  I will remember dad has a bad back and go down the stairs with the rest of the dogs at potty break times, instead of waiting for them to return and then wanting to go 15 minutes later.

10)  I will try and remember the purpose of the kitty liter box is NOT to provide treats for me when I get the munchies.

11)  I will not sit next to mom when I have gas.

12)  I will try to remember there are 4 dogs and two humans sleeping together in a double bed, and share more of the bed at night.

The PetsMart Santa program brought in $765!  We were able to work two weekends, thanks to the efforts of volunteers and the invitation of Mel, at our Parker Petsmart.  These funds were much in needs as we entered 2004 with a deficit!  Thanks to all who helped support this effort!

Money will buy a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the wag of his tail.

  FUN EVENTS

2004 fuzzypups Pomachon picnic will be held on June 19th at the Julia DeKoevend park.  We are looking for picnic ideas for events or entertainment.  please email or call if you have any ideas for us.  After 5 years, our brains are unable to come up with anything new and exciting.

 Blind Dog Poem

I cannot see you Mommy, when you cuddle me so near.

And yet I know you love me, its in the words I hear.

I cannot see you Daddy, when you hold me by your side

But still I know you love me when you tell me so with pride.

I cannot see to run and play out in the sun so bright

For here inside my tiny head it's always dark as night.

I cannot see the treats you give when I am extra good

But I can wag my tail in thanks just like a good dog should.

"She cannot see.  The dogs no good" is what some folks might say

"She can't be trained, she'll never learn, she must be put away."

But not you, Mom and Daddy.  you know that it's alright

Because I love you just as much as any dog with sight.

You took me in, you gave me love and we will never part

Because I'm blind with just my eyes, I see you in my heart.

HOLIDAY WARNING!

Please keep in mind winter is the time of Holidays.  Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas all have their cautions for pet owners.

Three Little Pigs

Three Little Pigs went out to dinner one night. The waiter comes and takes their drink order.

"I would like a Sprite," said the first little piggy.  "I would like a Coke," said the second little piggy. "I want water, lots and lots of water," said the third little piggy.

The drinks are brought out and the waiter takes their orders for dinner.

"I want a nice big steak," said the first piggy.  "I would like the salad plate," said the second piggy. "I want water, lots and lots of water," said the third little piggy.

The meals were brought out and a while later the waiter approached the table and asked if the piggies would like any dessert.

"I want a banana split," said the first piggy.  "I want a root beer float," said the second piggy.  "I want water, lots and lots of water," exclaimed the third little piggy.

"Pardon me for asking," said the waiter! to the third little piggy, "but why have you only ordered water all evening?"

You're gonna LOVE me for this....

The third piggy says -"Well, somebody has to go 'Wee, wee, wee, all the way home!"

RESCUE OF THE MONTH:  WATCH FOR US ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 10TH...PETLINE 9 AT OR AROUND 8:00 AM

Thumper:  is a 7 month old female Bichon Frise and has a heart condition that is not operable.  She should live another 4-6 years with proper care and medication. She  is desperately in need of a home at sea level to take the stress off of her heart.   She doesn't have any clue she is sick, and acts all puppy.  She is a cuddle bug and loves everyone she meets.   If you have a big heart, and lots of love to give, if even for a short time, Thumper will give back to you 10 fold.  We adore her, and would keep her here, however our vet says she needs to go to to a lower altitude for her future survival.  Her medication costs are very minimal, but she must have medication twice per day.  She is spay, and all shots are current.

Feel free to have your vet call ours for detailed infor:  Dr. McKenzie Goldthwait: 303-470-5040

PROGRESSIVE DOG RULES OR, "THE DOG RULES"

1:  Dogs are never permitted in the house.  The dog stays outside in a specially built wooden compartment named, for a very good reason, "the dog house".

2:  Okay, the dog can enter the house, but only for short visits or is his own house is under renovation.

3:  Okay, the dog can stay in the house on a permanent basis, provided his dog house can be sold in a yard sale to a rookie dog owner.

4:  Inside the house, the dog is not allowed to rn free and is confined to a comfortable but secure metal cage.

5: Okay, the cage becomes part of a two-for-one deal along ith the dog house in the yard sale, and the dog can go wherever the hell he pleases.

6:  The dog is never allowed on the furniture.

7:  Okay, the dog can get on the old furniture but not the new furniture.

8:  Okay, the dog can get up on the new furniture until it looks like the old furniture, then we'll sell the whole damn works and buy new furniture...upon which the dog will most definitely not be allowed.

9:  The dog never sleeps on the bed.  Period!

10:  Okay, the dog can sleep at the foot of the bed.

11:  Okay, the dog can sleep along side you, but he's not allowed under the covers.

12:  Okay, the dog can sleep under the covers but not with his head on the pillow.

13:  Okay, the dog can sleep along side you, umder the covers with his head on the pillow, but if he snores, he's got to leave the room.

14:  Okay, the dog can sleep and snore and have nightmares in bed, but he's not to come in and sleep on the couch in the TV room, where I'm now sleeping.  That's just not fair!

15:  The dog never gets listed on the census questionaire as "primary resident," even if it's true.

2003 fuzzypups Pomachon picnic was a big success

June 21 had 86 pets in attendance...tune in to website for photos and further details:  2003 Picnic

Take Hold of Every Moment

A friend of mine opened his wife's underwear drawer and picked up a silk
paper wrapped package:  "This, - he said - isn't any ordinary package."

He unwrapped the box and stared at both the silk paper and the box.
"She got this the first time we went to New York, 8 or 9 years ago. She
has never put it on. Was saving it for a special occasion.
Well, I guess this is it. He got near the bed and placed the gift box next
to the other clothings he was taking to the funeral house, his wife had
just died. He turned to me and said:  "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a  special occasion".

I still think those words changed my life.

Now I read more and clean less.

I sit on the porch without worrying about anything.

I spend more time with my family, and less at work.

I understood that life should be a source of experience to be lived up to,
not survived through. I no longer keep anything. I use crystal glasses
every day... I'll wear new clothes to go to the supermarket, if i feel
like it.

I don't save my special perfume for special occasions, I use it whenever I
want to. The words "Someday..." and "One Day..." are fading away from my
dictionary. If it's worth seeing, listening or doing, I want to see,
listen or do it now. I don't know what my friend's wife would have done if
she knew she wouldn't be there the next morning, this nobody can tell. I
think she might have called her relatives and closest friends.
She might call old friends to make peace over past quarrels. I'd like to
think she would go out for Chinese, her favorite food. It's these small
things that I would regret not doing, if I knew my time had come.

I would regret it, because I would no longer see the friends I would meet,
letters... letters that i wanted to write"  One of these days".

I would regret and feel sad, because I didn't say to my brothers and children,
not times enough at least, how much I love them.

Now, I try not to delay, postpone or keep anything that could bring
laughter and joy into our lives.

And, on each morning, I say to myself that this could be a special day.

Each day, each hour, each minute, is special.

If you got this, it's because someone cares for you and because, probably,
there's someone you care about.

If you're too busy to send this out to other people and you say to
yourself that you will send it "One of these days", remember that "One
day" is far away..... or might never come...

 2003 PICNIC THIS MONTH!

DENVER METRO POM CLUB COMING TO THE PICNIC!

Thanks to the Denver Metro Pom Club, the picnic may come off after all.  With other things going on, and no help, it was questionable whether Kenny and I  could pull off a picnic this year.  A call to the Pom Club assured us much needed assistance in planning and new ideas, so we are looking forward to a great time on Saturday, June 21.

Also, we have a photographer again this year.  Heather of "A Time of Your Life Photography", also a Pom owner, will be on hand for a photo shoot for those that want to participate.

Be there or Be Square!

The Creation story as told by Snoopy

On the first day, God created the dog.

On the second day, God created man to serve the dog.

On the third day, God created all the animals of the
earth to serve as potential food for the dog.

On the fourth day, God created honest toil so that man
could labour for the good of the dog.

On the fifth day, God created the tennis ball so that the
dog might or might not retrieve it.

On the sixth day, God created veterinary science to
keep the dog happy and the man broke.

On the seventh day, God tried to rest, but he had to
walk the dog.

WHERE DO PETS COME FROM?

It is reported that the following edition of the Book of Genesis
was discovered in the Dead Seal Scrolls.  If authentic, it would
shed light on the question, "Where do pets come from?"

And Adam said, "Lord, when I was in the garden, you walked
with me everyday.  Now I do not see you anymore.  I am
lonesome here and it is difficult for me to remember how much
you love me."

And God said, "No problem!  I will create a companion for you
that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my
love for you, so that you will know I love you, even when you
cannot see me.  Regardless of how selfish and childish and
unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you
are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourself."

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam.
And it was a good animal. And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and he wagged
his tail.  And Adam said, "But Lord, I have already named all the
animals in the Kingdom and all the good names are taken and I
cannot think of a name for this new animal."

And God said, "No problem!  Because I have created this new
animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a
reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."

And Dog lived with Adam and was a companion to him and loved
him.  And Adam was comforted.  And God was pleased.  And Dog
was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that Adam's guardian angel came to
the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam has become filled with pride.  He
struts and preens like a peacock and he believes he is worthy of
adoration.  Dog has indeed taught him that he is loved, but no one
has taught him humility."

And the Lord said, "No problem!  I will create for him a companion
who will be with him forever and who will see him as he is.  The
companion will remind him of his limitations, so he will know that he
is not always worthy of adoration."

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam.  And Cat
would not obey Adam.  And when Adam gazed into Cat's eyes, he
was reminded that he was not the supreme being.  And Adam
learned humility.

And God was pleased.  And Adam was greatly improved.
And Cat did not care one way or the other.

LOSS OF A DOG
If you've ever known the joyful sound
Of barks that fill the air-
A sloppy kiss, a friendly paw,
A quiet adoring stare-
If you've ever had a special friend
To share a tear or two,
Or maybe just a wagging tail
To lift you when you're blue-
If you've ever felt the wrenching pain
That only death can send,
Then you have lost
Not just a dog-
You've truly lost a friend.
But God is good and treasures love
And there at Heaven's gate-
A sloppy kiss, a joyful bark-
Your precious friend awaits.

Dedicated to Spunky, lost to us 3/24/03

What I learned from Spunky/Bo

~ Keep on lovin' gil you can't no more

~ Be kind to everybody

~ Bloom where you're planted

~ Relationships are about quality & connection - not about length of time.

~ God and animals know what's best: humans usually need more help.

~ It's okay to trust the kindness of strangers

~ God works through animals to help people, and through people to help animals.

  Inner Strength

If you can start the day without caffeine or pep pills,
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,
If you can overlook when people take things out on you when,
through no fault of yours, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can do all these things, ...

Then you are probably the family dog.

DOG THEFT ALERT!

Besides the much media-pressed theft of the puppies from someone's house, we have been notified of 3 dogs that have been stolen from either cars or back yards.   In all instances the pets were left un-attended for 15  minutes or less.  Please be careful if you are leaving your pets unattended.  It may not be worth the risk.

Our hearts go out to some very dear clients this month.  3 of our senior boarders passed on, and we are very saddened by their loss.  Chad, our darling 3 legged P**dle was 18, and Maddie and Sebastian, whom you may remember from last years picnic, also left for the Rainbow Bridge...

In Memory of CC

FEATURED RESCUE OF THE MONTH:  Yoyo.  HE IS A 6-7 YEAR OLD MINIATURE  APRICOT P**DLE WHO IS AN ABSOLUTE HEART BREAKER.  HE IS ONLY ABOUT 4 POUNDS AND LOVES TO SIT IN YOUR LAP ALL DAY, AND WOULD BE A GREAT PET FOR SOMEONE WITH LOVE TO SHARE.   HE ALSO DANCES AND SINGS, ACCORDING TO HIS OLD OWNER.   FOR FURTHER DETAILS AND A COMPLETE LIST OF  RESCUES NEEDING HOMES, VISIT OUR Adoption! Special thanks to Leanna, who has been spending her weekends helping us out with that x-tra pair of hands we have been short...she just loves all these guys!

And this... is MY new wedding band!  Kenny and I celebrate our 21 years together soon, and this is what I bought myself.  Thanks Carol!  Make sure you all go, oooo, ahhhh when you see me next.

CAN YOU LOVE ME LIKE MY DOG?

* Smother me with kisses each time I enter the room, even tho I've only been gone for 30 seconds.

Forgive anything and never hold a grudge, especially when it's my fault?

Whimper and whine when we're apart?

Beg for my attention?

Bump into doorways and walls in your rush to greet me?

Never change how you feel about me?

Always be thrilled to go on a drive or run an errand, as long as it's with me?

Follow me anywhere?

Answer the door prepared to defend me from strangers and people in uniform?

Feel okay if you lost your hair?

Be interested in meeting new people, but always come back to me?

Pant for me?

Always think I look good, no matter what I have on?

If you can do this, and more, you have an unconditional love for me,

Even tho I am unworthy.
